mom

May 4, 2006. This is the day my mother passed away. 19 days from now will be the 1st anniversary of her death. She was 65. She had M.S.

Multiple sclerosis: Function: noun : a demyelinating disease marked by patches of hardened tissue in the brain or the spinal cord and associated especially with partial or complete paralysis and jerking muscle tremor.

My mom had the relapsing/remitting kind: Relapsing-Remitting MS :In this form of MS there are unpredictable relapses (exacerbations, attacks) during which new symptoms appear or existing symptoms become more severe. This can last for varying periods (days or months) and there is partial or total remission (recovery). The disease may be inactive for months or years. * Frequency - approx 25%)

But she died from an aneurysm unrelated to her M.S.

I miss her.

Sue, I didn't know your Mom had MS. So did my Mom. She was in a period of exacerbation that was brought on we believe when my brother had pneumonia and went into respiratory arrest. That was late 2002. In March 2003 she was diagnosed with leukemia. She actually had a very treatable leukemia, but because she was in a period of exacerbation she got so sick the chemo treatments almost killed her. In May 2003 she ended up in the hospital and made the decision for no more treatments and she died in January 2004.

I remember when she was diagnosed with MS we were so relieved that it wasn't a "fatal" disease. Mom wasn't diagnosed until her mid-50s and they think she probably actually had it for about 10 years by then. She was 71.

I had no idea your Mom had MS as well. Wow!

So sorry that post was sort of disjointed.

I meant to say Mom was 71 when she died and we never dreamed we would lose her so soon or in the way we did. But then, can one ever truly be prepared?
